Thank you Southern California for eight great years in Dana Point!
We would like to thank many people for their hard work on the past eight Doheny Days festivals:

• The fans... of course.
• Generous Sponsors
• Residents of Dana Point
• Omega Staff
• Surfrider Foundation volunteers

And how can we forget the musicians, many who traveled long distances to arrive in Dana Point? We are honored to have featured many of the top World Music artists and we thank them for the memories:

Special mention should bemade to the artists who performed at the 2001 Doheny Days, held only 4 days after 9-11. While many of the acts on the "rock day" couldn't get to the west coast, all of the reggae acts were able to attend on Sunday 9/16/01.

DOHENY DAYS IS OFFICIALLY POSTPONED
In response to the many emails, calls and Bulletin Board postings, here is an official response from Omega Events:

The 2005 Doheny Days World Music Festival is officially postponed; also, there will not be any special events at Doheny State Beach on September 17 & 18, 2005.

Late last year, the State Parks Department asked us to bid on the September 2005 weekend with the one requirement; the proposed event could not be considered a "reggae festival."

Knowing this, we still submitted a bid for the park and we won the bid. We then explored our options for 30 days, but after speaking with other promoters and colleagues in the business, we decided that it would be too difficult this year to create a new September event at Doheny that retains the same positive vibe as Doheny Days World Music Festival. Over the past few years we are proud to have featured a diverse mix of music, but the majority of the artists that have graced the stages at Doheny are reggae acts.

Will this status change in the future? Possibly, but we will have to be patient. There will not be a Doheny Days World Music Festival this September. We also explored other special event venues in Orange County, but we just didn't want to compromise the integrity/style of the event (plus, music on the beach is hard to beat.)

Our first Doheny Days festival was held in September 1997, and through the years we've presented a wild mix of musical styles:

Pop-rock (Everclear, Sugar Ray, Reel Big Fish)
Alt-rock (Unwritten Law, Kottonmouth Kings, hed(PE))
80s rock (X, Berlin, The Church, Cracker)
Classic Rock (Steve Miller Band, Eric Burdon)
Blues (John Lee Hooker, Kenny Wayne Shepherd)

When we settled on "Reggae & World Music" in 2000, we realy found a home, both musically and with the fans. The vibe has been great the last 4 years, and we are honored to have presented many top artists from the genre:

Jimmy Cliff, Steel Pulse, Shaggy, Burning Spear, Third World, Spearhead, Barrington Levy, Ozomatli, Michael Rose, Israel Vibration, Eek-A-Mouse... any many others.

We look forward to many events in the future at Doheny State Beach, but it will take some time to clear up when those events will be held (and what music format they will follow.) Bottom line - if the State Parks Department has concerns with an event, or the OC Sheriff's Department for that matter, a permit will not be issued at Doheny.

We are confident that we can create a musical mix that will bring the crowds, keep the vibe positive, and feature great food, vendors and all the other features of a relaxed atmosphere.

UPDATE 8/1/05:
The calendar at Doheny State Beach had been showing an alternate special event for September 17 & 18 and it was going to be produced by Trio Events... the event was going to feature country music.

Last week the State Parks Department received notice from Trio Events that they have cancelled their proposed event. There will be no special event at Doheny State Beach this fall for the first time since 1996.
